Kariwano

Japanese: 刈和野 - かりわの
Kariwano

It is a district of Daisen City in central Akita Prefecture. The former Kariwano Town became Nishisenboku Town in Senboku District in 1955 (Showa 30), and in 2005 (Heisei 17) merged with Omagari City and other areas to form Daisen City. During the Edo period, it flourished as a boat landing for boat transport on the Omono River and a post station on the Ushu Kaido road. It is home to Kariwano Station on the JR Ou Main Line, and National Route 13 passes through the area. The "Kariwano Tug of War," a tradition that boasts over 500 years of history, is a nationally designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property.
