A city in southern Gifu Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1963. Kakamigahara, which occupies most of the city area, was the site of an army aviation regiment and aircraft factories after the Meiji period, and the city developed rapidly. Sohara, in the center, has many aircraft and automobile factories, and is home to an Air Self-Defense Force base. The Naka district is a commercial area. Unuma is a textile manufacturing area and, along with Inuyama, is a tourist destination on the Japan Line, and Inaba is a long-standing textile manufacturing area. The city's manufacturing shipment value is third in the prefecture, with the transportation equipment industry accounting for more than 50% of the city's total (2003). The Takayama Main Line and Meitetsu Kakamigahara Line cross the central part of the city, and the Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway runs through it. 岐阜県南部の市。1963年市制。市域の大半を占める各務ヶ原に明治以後陸軍飛行連隊や航空機工場が設置されて急速に発展した。中心の蘇原には航空機,自動車の工場が多く,航空自衛隊の基地がある。那加地区は商業地である。鵜沼は紡織工業地で犬山市とともに日本ラインの観光地,稲羽は古くからの機業地。市の製造品出荷額は,県内では3位,中でも輸送用機器工業が市全体の50%以上(2003)を占める。中部を高山本線と名鉄各務原線が横断し,東海北陸自動車道が通じる。2004年11月羽島郡川島町を編入。87.81km2。14万5604人(2010)。
