Toyama shrimp (Toyama shrimp) - Pandalus hypsinotus
A cold-water shrimp of the family Palaemonidae that reaches a body length of 17 cm, it is an important species in the fisheries industry (illustration). It is found in shallow waters of the Sea of ​​Japan, the coast of Hokkaido, the Kuril Islands, Sakhalin, the Bering Sea, and other areas down to depths of about 350 m, with famous fishing areas including Toyama Bay, Funka Bay, and off the coast of Rumoi. In recent years, the catch has been particularly high in Toyama Bay, with fishing grounds at depths of 100 to 200 m. It is available in the market from winter to spring. It is pale pink with dark horizontal stripes on the cephalothorax and abdomen. It resembles the botan shrimp (illustration), but can be distinguished by the difference in body color, the high dorsal ridge of the cephalothorax, and the strongly curved rostrum.

体長17cmに達する寒海系の甲殻綱タラバエビ科のエビで,水産業上の重要種(イラスト)。日本海,北海道沿岸,千島列島,サハリン,ベーリング海などの浅海から水深350mほどまでに分布し,富山湾,噴火湾,留萌沖などが有名な産地である。近年ではとくに富山湾での漁獲量が多く,水深100~200mが好漁場となっている。冬から春に市場に出る。淡紅色で,頭胸甲と腹部に濃色の横縞がある。ボタンエビ(イラスト)に似ているが,体色の違いのほか,頭胸甲の背隆起が高いこと,額角が強く曲がっていることなどによって区別される。
