…The following year, he also became a teacher for the royal daughters of the clubs, and served two kings, Louis XIV and Louis XV, as a musician at the court of Versailles until he resigned from his position at the court in 1730. In contrast to Delalande, who monopolized important musical positions, he was not particularly well-off, and only became the king's permanent chamber musician for the clubs in 1717. After joining the court, he composed sacred vocal music, and the cantata Leçons de Ténèbres (1715) was his masterpiece. In addition, the concertos Concerts royaux (1722), composed to console Louis XIV in his later years, and its sequel Les goûts réünis, or New Concerts (1724), reflect the musical tastes of France in the first half of the 18th century. …
