In addition, in shrine festivals, lion dances and ōmai (roaring dances) are sometimes used to lead the procession, and the lion heads and ōmai masks (Hanataka, Hana no ō, ō no hana) used in these masks are considered to be of the same type as the groups of lions used in memorial services, so they are often included in this category, and the demon masks used in ceremonies such as Tsuina and Oni Hashiri are also often lumped together under this name. The subject matter is often Buddhist deities, and in terms of technique, they are common to bugaku masks from the same period, the makers are usually thought to be Buddhist sculptors, and the distinctive features of the expression are similar to the Buddhist sculptures of the period.

…来迎会の形式によっては地蔵，竜樹という僧形の面や阿弥陀如来の面，持幡先導役の天童面なども使用する。なお，神社の祭礼において神幸の先導に獅子舞と王舞を伴う場合があり，これに使用する獅子頭と王舞面(鼻高，鼻ノ王，王ノ鼻)も法要の場合の師子の一群と同じ系統の仮面と考えられるので，この種類に含めたり，追儺（ついな）や鬼追い(鬼走り)などの会式に用いられる鬼面もこの呼称によってまとめられることが多い。その題材は仏教の神格が多いし，技法的には同じ時代の舞楽面に共通するもので，作者はふつう仏師と考えられ，表現の特色はその時代の仏教彫刻に通ずる。…
