Huinyeon Town

…Most of the county is a gentle mountain forest area that stretches from the 1,000m-high ridge of the Hamgyong Mountains that divide the south to the Tumen River, but along the Tumen River is the relatively wide Hoeryong Basin. The area around this basin was inhabited by the Jurchen people until the early Joseon period, and the Joseon Dynasty, which conquered them, established Hoeryong Town as one of the six northern towns. Even after that, exchanges with the tribes north of the Tumen River continued, and Hoeryong developed as a border trading city. …
