Edo

Japanese:
Edo

An impure world full of impurity. In Buddhism, it refers to the Three Realms and Six Paths, or the Saha world, which includes the human world we live in. Originally, Buddhism was thoroughly pessimistic, viewed the secular world negatively, and idealized the state of Nirvana. This position of negation of reality developed into the idea of denying the real world, full of suffering and contradictions, being averse to it, and seeking an ideal other world (Pure Land) full of comfort in Mahayana Buddhism, especially in Pure Land thought. In Genshin's Ojoyoshu, this idea is explained with the expression "Abhorring the impure world, seeking the Pure Land."
