Leone, S. (English spelling)

Spaghetti Westerns are a type of film that is made in the 1960s and 1970s, and are often referred to as "spaghetti westerns." After Hollywood's film capital, which had been using the Cinecittà Studios in Rome and Madrid, Spain as overseas production bases to produce films at low cost, withdrew in the early 1960s, the remaining facilities and staff produced "westerns." The worldwide hit "A Fistful of Dollars" (1964), directed by Sergio Leone (1921?-1989), which was a western adaptation of Akira Kurosawa's "Yojimbo" (1961), sparked a huge boom in the genre.

Italian westerns were originally made as imitations of American westerns, with cheap Hollywood stars playing the leading roles, and the Italian actors and staff all using pseudonyms instead of English names (for example, director Sergio Leone was originally called Bob Robertson, and actor Giuliano Gemma was called Montgomery Wood). The term spaghetti western was nothing more than a derogatory term for them.
