[Died] October 27, 1124. Nishapur Iranian linguist. He made great contributions to the study of proverbs and maxims that were transmitted to Arabia from ancient times. He was born in Maidan Ziyad, a district of Nishapur. His main work was the collection of proverbs from ancient Arabia, Majma` al-amthāl, to which he added appropriate annotations. Many proverbs and maxims have unclear meanings, but this work sheds light on many points about ancient Arabian culture, especially the meaning of poetry from that time. He also wrote an Arabic-Persian dictionary and other linguistic works.

イランの言語学者。アラビアに古代から伝わった諺，金言などの研究で功績があった。ニーシャープールの一区マイダーン・ジヤードで生れた。主著は古代アラビアの諺集成『マジュマウ・アル・アムサール』 Majma` al-amthālで，適切な注釈を加えてある。格言，俚諺の類には意味の不明のものが少くないが，この著により，古代アラビアの文化，特にその頃の詩などの意味で明らかになった点が多い。ほかにアラビア語＝ペルシア語辞典その他の言語学関係の著述を残した。
