Particularly notable in the modernization of firefighting is the rapid advancement of firefighting materials, as well as the establishment of administrative systems and strengthening of authority regarding fire prevention. Previously, firefighting administration was merely a passive administration focused on suppressing fires, but the Fire Service Act enacted after World War II emphasized the importance of investigating the causes of each fire and how they spread, based on the experience of repeated large fires and disasters, and feeding back the information gained to disaster prevention administration.
