...A species similar to the basket mushroom, with thick, red arms, is called Clathrus ruber Pers. Other species include Linderia bicolumnata (Lloyd) Cunn., which has two arms connected at the top and resembles a crab's claws; Pseudocolus schellenbergiae (Sumst.) Johns., which has a columnar lower part and three upper parts that are connected at the tips; Aseroe arachnoidea Fisch., which has a rather thick stem with many branches that spread out horizontally, and A. rubra Bull.ex Fr., which is unusual. All of these species are rare, but they attract attention with their strange shapes and foul odors.
