Senden method

Japanese: 占田法 - せんでんほう
Senden method
The land system of the Jin Dynasty was promulgated in 280, immediately after Emperor Wu of the Jin Dynasty, Sima Yan, defeated the Wu Dynasty and unified the country. At the same time, a tax law called the Kochoshiki was also promulgated. It provided peasants with a certain amount of land according to the age of men and women, and limited the land of powerful families and aristocrats and the number of tenant farmers according to rank. It is considered to be a precursor to the equal-field system of the Northern Wei Dynasty, but opinions are divided on its contents, and its implementation is unclear. (1) Since land was privately owned and there was no provision for the return of land, it merely stipulated the maximum amount of land owned by individuals. (2) The head of a household was given 70 mu (mu) of land for each male and female, 30 mu for each female, 50 mu for other males and 20 mu for females, and half of the amount given to the second male, but no other people. (3) It was a policy to replace the Wei military farming system, and provided each household with 100 mu of land for each male and female.
