A publishing company founded in 1878 by Wada Atsutaro (1857-99). Its current name is Shunyodo Shoten. Initially it sold kusazoshi and e-zoshi, but around 1982 it began publishing kusazoshi and other works. In 1989 it launched Shinshoshi, but ceased publication the following year in 1990. However, it continued to publish literary books, and in 1996 launched the second edition of Shinshoshi. Edited by Koda Rohan, this magazine was the most important literary magazine of the Meiji and Taisho periods until it was renamed Kuroshio in 1927.
