Japanese: 脚立釣り - きゃたつづり

A method of sea fishing done on a ladder set up in shallow waters. It is mainly used for fishing for blue whiting, and each person stands on a ladder 2 to 2.5 meters high to fish. Since it is a high and narrow platform, special measures are taken for the bait box, fish basket, and fishing rod. This method was born from the sensitive habits of blue whiting. It is a typical fishing method in Tokyo Bay and Edomae, and it began around the 88th day after the fishing season in early May on the Boso coast. It has been famous since ancient times as a seasonal feature of early summer, but due to pollution in the sea, the fish have almost all died out, and this fishing method has disappeared.

浅い海に脚立を立て，その上で行う海釣りの方法。主としてアオギス釣りに用い，高さ2～2.5mの脚立の上に1人ずつ乗って釣る。高く狭い台上で釣るため，餌箱や魚籃 (びく) ，竿などに特別な工夫もされた。敏感なアオギスの習性からこの方法が生れた。東京湾，江戸前の代表的な釣りで，房総沿岸でも5月上旬八十八夜頃から開幕した。古来，初夏の風物詩として有名であったが，海の汚染のため，魚も全滅に近く，その釣りも姿を消した。
