An ancient name for Japan. It is also called Toyo Ashihara Chugoku (Toyo Ashihara Nakatsukuni) or Ashihara (Ashihara Province) for short. The source of this name is the Kamiyomaki chapter of the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, and it comes from the fact that the heavenly gods called the land of reeds from Takamagahara in the heavens.
