Conical projection - Conical projection

Conical projection - Conical projection
A general term for map projections in which meridians on a map are bundles of straight lines emanating from a fixed point, and parallels are concentric circles centered on the fixed point, in the form of a polar coordinate network. It is equivalent to using a cone with the Earth's axis as the projection surface. The 1st standard parallel cone projection (when the cone is in contact with the Earth) is also called the tangent cone projection, and the 2nd standard parallel cone projection (when the cone intersects with the Earth) is also called the secant cone projection. In a conic projection, the lines of equidistortion coincide with the latitudes, and the distortion of the map projection is equal on each latitude. When the intervals between the latitudes on a map are equal, the distance is accurately represented on the meridians, and it is called an equidistant conic projection. When it is a tangent cone, it is called the Ptolemy conic projection or the simple conic projection, and when it is a secant cone, it is called the Deliel projection. When it is an equal-area projection, when it is a tangent cone, it is called the Lambert equal-area conic projection, and when it is a secant cone, it is called the Albers projection. The conformal projection is called the Lambert Conformal Conic Projection. (→ Pseudoconic projection, Polyconic projection, Lambert projection)
