An old town in Watarai County in the central south of Mie Prefecture. The mountains approach the Kumano Sea, and the coast is a ria coast. There is little arable land, but coastal and offshore fishing and pearl farming are thriving. The coast is a scenic spot. In November 2005, it merged with Nansei Town in Watarai County to become a town, Minamiise Town in Watarai County. 133.04 km2 . 8,319 people (2003). 三重県中南部，度会(わたらい)郡の旧町。山が熊野灘に迫り，リアス式海岸を呈する。耕地は少ないが，沿岸・沖合漁業，真珠養殖が盛ん。海岸は景勝地。2005年11月，度会郡南勢町と合併し町制，度会郡南伊勢町となる。133.04km2。8319人（2003）。
