...They breed in the northern part of the Northern Hemisphere and migrate to the Southern Hemisphere in winter. The long-tailed skua ( S. longicaudus ) (illustration) and the black-tailed skua ( S. parasiticus ) are also similar birds to the skua, breeding in the Arctic and wintering in the Southern Hemisphere. All three species are seen passing through the coastal waters of Japan twice a year, in spring and autumn, but the majority of them are seen in spring.
