Mangu Timur (English spelling)

...Khan Berke (1255-66), the first to accept Islam, built the New Sarai to the north of the Old Sarai as a center of commerce and industry, and diplomatically began a century-long struggle with the Ilkhanate over the possession of the Transcaucasia, while at the same time establishing friendly relations with the Mamluks of Egypt. The next Khan, Mangu Timur (1266-82), intervened in the so-called Haidu Rebellion (1266-1304), fought between Kublai Khan and Haidu for the title of Great Khan, and the Kipchak Khanate gained the status of an independent state. It reached its zenith in the first half of the 14th century under the father-son duo Özbek (1312-42) and Janibek (1342-57). Uzbek Khan made Islam the state religion, established New Sarai as his capital, constructed mosques and other buildings, and promoted commerce and handicrafts.
