Aquitaine is a region in southwestern France, mainly in the middle and lower reaches of the Garonne River (the central and western parts of the Aquitaine Basin). Its scope has changed considerably over time, but today the term Aquitaine generally refers to the region that includes Guyenne, with its capital Bordeaux, and the surrounding areas, namely Aunis (with its capital La Rochelle), Saintonge, Angoumois, Périgord, Agenais, Quercy, and Gascogne. *Some of the terminology explanations that mention "Angoomor" are listed below.
