The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
The world's largest tire manufacturer, based in the United States. Headquartered in Akron, Ohio. Founded in Akron in 1898 by Frank Seiberling. Originally a rubber company run by Charles Goodyear, son of Charles Goodyear, inventor of the rubber vulcanization process. Starting out by manufacturing bicycle tires, the company soon switched to automobile tires, and by 1916 had become the largest tire manufacturer in the United States. Since 1910, the company has also established production subsidiaries overseas, and started operating a rubber plantation in Sumatra, becoming a huge international trust by the late 1920s.
