1,2-benzenedicarboximide. C 8 H 5 NO 2 (147.13). It is produced by heating phthalic anhydride with ammonia or ammonium carbonate and then imidizing it. It can also be obtained by dehydrating phthalamide or ammonium phthalate. Sublimable needle crystals. Melting point: 233-235°C. Soluble in hot acetic acid and alkaline aqueous solutions, but sparingly soluble in benzene and ethanol. The hydrogen of NH has a strong protonicity and easily forms N -alkali metal salts. By reacting this with alkyl halides, various N -alkyl derivatives can be produced, which is used in the synthesis of primary amines. In addition, by reacting N -alkali metal salts with halogens, N -halogen compounds can also be obtained. By reacting with hypochlorous acid, it undergoes the Beckmann rearrangement reaction to become anthranilic acid. It is used as a raw material for dyes and pigments. 1,2-benzenedicarboximide.C8H5NO2(147.13).
