Japanese: ミツデウラボシ - みつでうらぼし
Mitsudeuraboshi - Mitsudeuraboshi

An evergreen fern of the Polypodiaceae family. Leaf shape varies, ranging from simple to palmately divided into two or three lobes. The leaves are hard and papery, with reticulate veins with free veins. The petiole is long. The sporangia are round and arranged in a vertical row slightly closer to the midrib. There is no intumescence. Distributed throughout the country, with larger and more numerous in warmer regions. The leaves hang down on bright, dry cliffs. C. engleri does not have three lobes, and is more common south of C. trifoliata. C. veitchii grows on rock faces in the subalpine zone, and has leaves that are pinnately divided once.
