...In addition, Roswitha also produced works such as The Martyrdom of Saint Agnes and The Life of Saint Pelagius. In the early 11th century, St. Gallen had Ekkehart IV (c. 980-c. 1060), a capable editor of the temple tradition. The next generation was represented by the cold and eloquent monk Peter Damiani (author of Song of Songs and other works), Lanfranc (c. 1005-89), Archbishop of Canterbury, and the two authorities Anselm, and especially Abelard, who attracted many lecturers at the University of Paris, and his opponent Bernard of Clairvaux, a leading figure in the religious world at the time.
