Laser knife; laser scalpel

Laser knife; laser scalpel
A scalpel that utilizes the action of laser light. Continuous-wave laser light from a CO2 laser, argon laser, YAG laser, or other laser with several tens of watts is guided to the surgical field through a metal pipe or optical fiber, and the light is irradiated onto tissue. The tissue is incised, and at the same time, the blood vessels in the tissue coagulate due to heat, and bleeding stops. This allows so-called bloodless surgery to be performed. Laser scalpels for bloodless surgery are being put into practical use in surgery. There are also attempts to stop bleeding from the stomach by irradiating the bleeding area with a laser light through a gastrofiberscope, to blow away bruises on the skin by momentarily irradiating them with pulsed laser light such as a ruby laser, and to use laser light on cavities to dissolve and repair the area.
