Japanese: 海岸砂防 - かいがんさぼう

Civil engineering works and tree planting are carried out on devastated sandy areas of the coast to create disaster prevention forests to prevent damage from blown sand and sea breezes. In some cases, the purpose can be achieved by civil engineering works alone, but generally, considering cost savings and the multifaceted use of forests, the purpose of erosion control is planned to be achieved by combining civil engineering works and tree planting. Disaster prevention forests created by erosion control works are incorporated into conservation forests, but disaster prevention forests created by coastal erosion control include blown sand control forests to prevent blown sand and saltwater damage control forests to prevent damage from saltwater breezes and tsunamis.

海岸の荒廃した砂地に，土木工事や樹木の植栽をおこなって防災林を造成し，飛砂や潮風などの被害を防ぐこと。土木工事だけで目的を達成できる場合もあるが，一般には，経費の節約や森林の多面的利用を考え，土木工事と樹木の植栽の組合せで砂防の目的を達成しようと計画する。砂防工事で造成された防災林は保安林に編入されるが，海岸砂防で造成される防災林には飛砂を防ぐための飛砂防備林と潮風や津波の害を防止する潮害防備林がある。
