...A type of respiratory infection transmitted by birds. In 1879, Swiss physician D. Ritter first described pneumonia in humans who had come into contact with tropical birds. Later, in 1895, French physician A. Morange confirmed that parrots transmit the disease, and named it psittacosis from the Greek word psittakos (parrot). The causative agent was previously considered a virus, but it has recently been reclassified as a bacterium, due to its characteristics of being large (250-400 μm), having a cell wall, multiplying by binary fission, and being sensitive to antibiotics that act on bacterial enzyme systems, and is now called Chlamydia psittaci . ...

…鳥類が媒介する呼吸器感染症の一種。1879年，スイスの医師リッターD.Ritterが熱帯産の鳥に接触した人に起こった肺炎について記載したのが最初で，その後，95年にフランスのモランジュA.Morangeによってオウムがこの病気を媒介することが確認され，ギリシア語のpsittakos(オウム)からpsittacosisと命名された。病原菌は従来ウイルスとされていたが，大きさ250～400mμと大型で細胞壁があり，二分裂法により増殖し，細菌の酵素系に作用する抗生物質に感受性があるなどの特徴から，最近になって細菌として再分類され，現在はクラミディアChlamydia psittaciと呼ばれている。…
