…At the end of the 19th century, the Secession was organized as part of a movement aimed at new artistic creation across Europe, and this workshop was established to put that philosophy into practice in the field of crafts. It was established in 1903 by Vienna architects J. Hoffmann and Kolo(man) Moser (1868-1918) as a crafts factory belonging to the Vienna Secession. In 1905, it became an independent workshop, employing both talented artists and craftsmen, and produced new designs for architecture, interior decoration, furniture, textiles, glasswork, ceramics, gold and silver work, leather, jewelry, lace, embroidery, bookbinding, and smoking accessories.
