Current account deposits (Bank of Japan Act, Article 20, Paragraph 3) are deposits made by financial institutions with the Bank of Japan based on a current account agreement with the Bank. No interest is paid on the deposit balance. These deposits are used for settlements between financial institutions, such as bill clearing, call transactions, and other settlements, as well as bill discounting, bill lending, foreign exchange settlements, and the Bank of Japan's receipts and payments to counterparties, such as treasury funds, all of which go through these deposits. In this way, deposits with the Bank of Japan provide a concrete venue for transactions in Japan's financial markets. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
