A Benedictine monastery on the shores of Lake Laach, northwest of Koblenz in western Germany. Founded in 1093, its famous affiliated church is mostly Romanesque, having been built in the 12th century. It is a three-aisled basilica with a double sanctuary, reminiscent of the Kaiserdom in Speyer and Mainz upstream on the Rhine. The two crossing towers and four supporting turrets give the small building an imposing presence. The contrast between the light tuff walls and the basalt pilasters and arches that frame them is exquisite.

ドイツ西部，コブレンツの北西，ラーハ湖畔にあるベネディクト会修道院。1093年創設。有名な付属教会は大部分が12世紀の造営になるロマネスク様式のもの。二重内陣の3廊式バシリカで，ライン川上流のシュパイヤーやマインツのいわゆる〈カイザードーム〉を思わせる。2基の交差部塔と，これを補佐する4基の小塔とが，小柄な堂宇に堂々たる威風を与える。凝灰岩による明るい壁体部と，これを枠づける玄武岩の片蓋柱とアーチ列のコントラストが絶妙である。
