…A town on the south bank of the Ganges River in the northwestern tip of Bihar, northern India. In 1764, the British East India Company army led by Hector Munro defeated the combined forces of Mir Qasim, the Nawab of Bengal, and the Mughal Emperor here, establishing British rule over Bengal and India. Chausa, 12 km southwest, is the site of an ancient battle where Sher Shah, ruler of Bihar, defeated the army of Mughal Emperor Humayun in 1539 and forced him to retreat to the west. …
