An ancient city located in the northeast of Egypt, on the west bank of the Nile River, about 5 km southwest of Cairo. Also known as Gizeh. About 8 km to the west are the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure from the Old Kingdom of Egypt, as well as the Sphinx. It is a famous tourist destination and was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1979.
