A sheepdog that originated in the UK. Native to the Shetland Islands in northeast Scotland, it looks like a miniature collie, but is a much older breed and its origins are unknown. It is a small sheepdog that developed to suit the harsh climate of the North Sea, and is nicknamed the sheltie. It is small in size but has a lot of leg power and is characterized by a flowing, efficient running style. It has a very gentle personality and is easy to get along with, making it a popular family dog. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
