1837‐1917 Italian socialist and writer. Born in Lombardy, he studied law. Initially a republican, he turned to socialism after the Paris Commune and aimed to become involved in a labor union movement focused on economic struggle. He published the newspaper Pleve (Plebe) with Vignami. In 1876, he was instrumental in the founding of the International Northern Italian Federation, and formed a non-anarchist evolutionist legalist faction. Seeking a political party based on a class organization of workers, he participated in the founding of the Italian Socialist Party in 1892.
