Enstatite

A type of mineral. It is also called enstatite. Orthopyroxene (Mg,Fe)SiO 3 is a solid solution with MgSiO 3 (enstatite, En) and FeSiO 3 (ferrosilite, also known as iron silicate, Fs) as end members, and enstatite refers to a material with 100-90% En and 0-10% Fs, or a material rich in Mg with positive optical biaxiality (Fs is 0-12%). 鉱物の一種。頑火輝石（がんかきせき）ともいう。斜方輝石(Mg,Fe)SiO3はMgSiO3(エンスタタイト，En)成分とFeSiO3(フェロシライトferrosilite，別名鉄ケイ石，Fs)成分を端成分とする固溶体であるが，エンスタタイトとはこのうちEn成分が100～90％，Fs成分が0～10％のもの，あるいはMgに富み光学性が正の二軸性のもの(Fsが0～12％)をいう。一般に少量のCa(Ca/(Ca＋Mg＋Fe)が0.05以下)やAlを含んでいる。
