オレガノの語源は、ギリシャ語で「山の喜び」。その名のとおり、古くから地中海地方の山地に住む人々に、愛用されてきました。 オレガノは比較的ポピュラーなハーブですが、かなり強力な薬効を示すことでも知られます。そのおもな作用は、強い抗酸化作用をはじめ、殺菌や解毒、鎮痛、消化器官の活動促進、駆虫(くちゅう)、強壮など。 その作用によって、オレガノはかぜ、気管支炎、頭痛、月経痛、口内炎(こうないえん)、消化不良、腹痛、疲労倦怠(ひろうけんたい)といった症状の改善に効果を発揮します。 ○外用としての使い方 また、精油を入浴剤として用いれば、精神をリラックスさせる効果があり、ノイローゼや不眠症、不安神経症に効果的。同様に、精油を用いてマッサージを行えば、打撲(だぼく)やねんざにも効果があります。 そのほか、カンジダ症や乾癬(かんせん)、にきびにも有効ですが、妊娠中の女性が精油を使うのは、刺激が強いので避けたほうがいいでしょう。 〈トマト料理と相性バツグン。肉の臭み消しにも効果的〉 ○食品としての使い方 ほろにがい味と樟脳(しょうのう)に似た清涼感のある芳香が特徴です。マージョラムとは姿、香りともに似ていますが、オレガノのほうが香りが強く、野性的な感じがします。 イタリア料理やギリシャ料理に多用され、ピザなどのトマトの料理には欠かせません。羊肉に振りかければ、臭みを消す効果を発揮。オムレツに少量加えれば、風味を引き立てます。 日本で一般に出回るのは乾燥したものですが、生の葉が手に入れば、そのまま刻んでサラダやドレッシングに入れてもいいでしょう。 出典 小学館食の医学館について 情報 |
