A city located 90 km north-northeast of Ibadan in Oyo State, western Nigeria, West Africa. Population 711,900 (1995). In western Nigeria, it is the third largest city after Lagos and Ibadan. A Yoruba town, National Highway 1, which connects southern and northern Nigeria, passes through it. Panya (cotton) is grown in the suburbs, and the cotton textile industry is thriving in the town.
