...The import of floral wallpaper from China also triggered the popularity of chinoiserie. Until the early 18th century, wallpaper was used mainly in the homes of the lower classes in France, but its popularity increased due to the work of Parisian woodblock artist J. Papillon. British wallpaper artist J.B. Jackson came up with a wallpaper style that incorporated Italian chiaroscuro.
