… The Washington Treaty (1922) limited the number of battleships that could be possessed, and to make up for this, Japan's Furutaka-class and other heavily-equipped heavy cruisers appeared. Furthermore, the London Naval Treaty (1930) limited the number of auxiliary ships that could be possessed, as well as the displacement and caliber of the main guns of cruisers, resulting in the creation of so-called treaty cruisers, which pursued the ultimate performance within the limits of the naval treaty. Heavy cruisers (defined by the London Naval Treaty as those with a displacement of 10,000 tons or less and 15.5 to 20.3 cm guns) were built by various countries in a competitive battle, and apart from their own characteristics in terms of defense, they all resembled each other, with four or five twin 20.3 cm turrets at the front and rear and two or four twin torpedo tubes. …
