Nāzik al-Malā'ika (NazikalMalaika)

...The Romantic poets, pioneered by Ḥalīl Muṭran (d. 1945) and perfected by such poets as Majnī al-Mājinī (1889-1949), Shukrī (d. 1958), 'Abbās Maḥmūd al-'Aqqād (1889-1964), and Jubrān (d. 1931), sought personal liberation from traditional shackles. Realistic poetry was initiated in 1947 by Nāzik al-Malā'ika (1923- ) and Sayyāb al-Sayyāb (d. 1964). Their poetry, with the exception of the long and short meter, was free from the constraints of fixed verse in terms of meter and rhyme, and completely revolutionized the traditional forms of Arabic poetry.
