Orihon - Orihon

Japanese:
Orihon - Orihon

A book bound by folding a scroll to the same width and attaching covers to the front and back. Along with the scroll, this is an old binding method. When a scroll is long, it is extremely inconvenient to unfold and rewind it to read. A folded book is a book that has been folded. This binding method is said to have been used since the Tang dynasty. In the history of book binding, it can be said to be a transitional form from scrolls to booklets. This binding method is often used for books such as calligraphy, so it is also called a calligraphy binding or calligraphy style. There is also a variation in the cover of a folded book, where the back cover is three times the surface of the first fold, wraps around the top of the front cover from both sides, and fastens it with a string attached to the right edge. There are many books printed in this style from the Song dynasty.
