...However, as the Secession's reputation was established, it also became more conservative, and around 1910 it was on the defensive against the newly emerging Expressionist artists. The emergence of anti-Secession movements, such as the founding of the "New Artists' Association in Munich" (1909) centered around W. Kandinsky, and the founding of the "New Secession" in Berlin (1910) centered around Max Pechstein (1881-1955), indicate a shift in the role of this movement. From then on, the Secession became a base for conservatives.

...Later, Otto Mueller (1874-1930) from Berlin joined the group, and in 1911, he moved to Berlin. Other members included Fritz Bleyl, Nolde, Max Pechstein (1881-1955), and foreign painters. However, in 1913, Kirchner wrote A Short History of the Brücke, which was seen as contradictory to the Brücke's basic stance of not having a clear statement, leading to a disagreement and the group being dissolved.
