A ballet company that was mainly active in Europe from 1909 to 1929, led by the Russian art lover Diaghilev. It is also called the Russian Ballet. At first, it performed not only ballets but also operas and was called Saisons Russe, a name that is still used in Russian documents today. The first performance was held in May-June 1909 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. All the pieces were choreographed by M. Fokine. Fokine was strongly opposed to the ballets of the time being created solely to showcase the dancers' techniques, and insisted that each ballet should be expressed according to its own requirements.
