A perennial plant of the orchid family that grows in mountain forests from Hokkaido to Kyushu and the Korean peninsula. It has an oval pseudobulb on the ground. It has two opposite leaves that grow at the base and are elliptical. In summer, a flower stalk 20-30 cm high emerges from between the leaves, and produces about 10 brownish purple flowers, each about 1 cm long, on the upper half. The lip petal is wide, reaching a diameter of 1.5 cm, and looks like a bell cricket with its wings spread, hence the name. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
