They call themselves Kurukh. They are an indigenous people who live in the Chotanagpur Plateau in India. They are Bedids, with dark brown skin, long heads, and wavy hair. Their language is Oraon, a Dravidian language (speaking population: about 1.9 million). They are divided into numerous clans with totems of animals, plants, minerals, etc., and each village has a chief and a hereditary priest. The most important element of social organization is the house of unmarried men, where traditional matters of social life are taught. Today, many of them are Christians.

自称クルク Kurukh。インドのチョタナーグプル高原に居住する先住民。形質的にはベッドイドに属し，黒褐色の皮膚，長頭，波状毛の特徴をもち，言語はドラビダ語族に属するオラオン語 (話者人口は約 190万) 。動植物，鉱物などのトーテムをもつ多数の氏族に分れ，各村には首長と世襲の祭司がいる。社会組織の最も重要な要素は未婚男子の家で，社会生活の伝統的な事柄が教えられた。今日ではキリスト教徒も多い。
