semi-representative regime (English)

...In contrast, later, after universal suffrage (for the time being, it remained universal male suffrage) was established, the election went beyond merely nominating members, and as long as they hoped to be re-elected, the fact that members were subject to the control of the electorate came to be positively evaluated, and the parliament was expected to make decisions while reflecting the will of the electorate. In French public law, the representative principle corresponding to this stage is called "semi-representative régime semi-représentatif," and there is a terminology that distinguishes it from "pure representative," which corresponds to the former form of parliament. In any case, parliamentary system is no longer fundamentally opposed to democracy, and the term "parliamentary democracy" came to be used.
