…Greek thinker and biographer active during the Roman period. English name Plutarch. Born to a noble family in Chaeronea in the Boeotian region of Greece, he studied in Athens, traveled to Egypt and Asia Minor, and then lectured on philosophy in Rome, where he also educated the future emperor Hadrian. In Rome, he became acquainted with many notable people and was apparently given an important position by the emperor. After that, he returned to his hometown and spent his life writing, but also served for many years as a priest at Delphi, famous for its oracles. …
