...The main stops are Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka City, Kurume City, Omuta City in Fukuoka Prefecture, and Kumamoto City and Yatsushiro City in Kumamoto Prefecture. Kyushu Railway built and began operating the section between Moji (now Mojiko) and Yatsushiro, and the government built and began operating the section between Yatsushiro and Kagoshima (via the current Hisatsu Line). In July 1907, the government acquired Kyushu Railway and it became a national railway line. At the time of the acquisition, the section between Yatsushiro, Hitoyoshi, and Yoshimatsu had not yet been opened, and it was renamed the Kagoshima Main Line when the section between Moji and Kagoshima was completed in November 1909.

...It was built by the Toyosu Railway Company, and the Kokura-Yukuhashi section was opened in April 1895, and the Yukuhashi-Yukigaura section in September 1897. The Toyosu Railway merged with the Kyushu Railway Company in 1901, and in 1907 was transferred to the national government under the Nationalization of Railways Act, and the Kokura-Yukigaura section became the Toyosu Line. It was opened to Oita in 1911, and to Miyazaki in 1923, connecting with the already opened Yoshimatsu-Miyakonojo-Miyazaki line, and the Kokura-Yoshimatsu section became the Nippō Main Line. ...
