Omaha - Omaha (English spelling)

Nebraska is the largest city in the state of the United States, located on the west bank of the Missouri River at the eastern end of the state. It has a population of 390,007 (2000). It is a key transportation hub, crisscrossed by railroads and highways, and the city-run airport in the north is bustling with nine airlines. Located in the main agricultural region of the United States, it has a large market for grains and livestock products, the latter being the fourth largest in the country. Food processing is the city's main industry, producing meat, flour, butter, and ice cream. It is also a thriving producer of essential oils, agricultural machinery, and electrical equipment. It is also the center of the insurance industry, ranking fourth in the nation. The town was founded in 1854 as the capital of the Nebraska Territory, and flourished as a supply point for the development of the west. The opening of the Union Pacific Railroad in 1869 marked the start of full-scale urban development. The city's 24 square kilometres of city parkland is a source of pride for the residents, and the city is also home to a wide variety of educational and cultural facilities and events.
