Otomo Sadamune

Year of birth: Year of birth unknown. A military commander in the late Kamakura period. The fourth son of Yoritsune and the daughter of Totsugi Tokichika. Commonly known as Magotaro. Sakon no daifu shogen and Omi no Kami. Around 1311 (Ocho 1), he inherited the family headship and Bungo Shugo position from his older brother Sadachika. Served as Chinzei magistrate. In March 1333 (Shokei 2/Ganko 3), he made a promise with Kikuchi Taketoki and Shoni Sadatsune to capture the Chinzei Tandai, but this was deemed premature and he did not go ahead with it. In May of the same year, when Rokuhara Tandai fell, he defeated Tandai Hojo Hidetoki with the help of Shoni and the Shimazu clan. The Chinzei Tandai was thus destroyed. For this achievement, Ashikaga Takauji (Takauji) confirmed his position as Bungo Shugo, and he was appointed as Hizen Shugo. In March of the same year, the fief was transferred to Chiyomatsumaru (Ujiyasu), and the Otomo clan changed to a system of sole succession to the legitimate son. 鎌倉後期の武将。頼泰と戸次時親の娘の4男。通称孫太郎。左近大夫将監,近江守。応長1(1311)年ごろ,兄貞親から家督と豊後守護職を相続。鎮西奉行を務める。正慶2/元弘3(1333)年3月,菊池武時,少弐貞経らと鎮西探題攻略を約すが,時期尚早とみて立たず。同年5月,六波羅探題が陥落するに至って,少弐・島津氏らと探題北条英時を討滅。鎮西探題はここに滅亡する。この功により足利高氏(尊氏)から豊後守護職を安堵され,肥前守護職に補任される。これに先立つ3月,所領所職は千代松丸(氏泰)に譲られ,以降,大友氏は嫡子単独相続制に移行した。貞宗は禅にも造詣が深く,中国から多くの禅僧を招いたりもしている。<参考文献>『増補訂正/編年大友史料』4～5巻
